This policy describes what BetterYou+ actually collects, what we do with it, and what we have deliberately chosen not to collect. It describes the site as it runs today, not a template of what a website might do.
The short version
- You can read this entire site without telling us anything.
- There are no accounts, no comments, and no advertising on BetterYou+.
- We run no Google Analytics and set no advertising or tracking cookies. Our network provider counts page views for us without cookies and without storing anything on your device.
- You give us personal information in exactly two places, and both are your choice: the contact form and the newsletter.
- If you answer a Quick Question or tell us whether an article helped, we keep your answer as part of a total. The short-lived code we use to stop repeat answers is kept apart from it and deleted within two days.
- Our newsletter does not track whether you opened it or what you clicked.
- We do not sell or share your information, and we never have.
Who is responsible
BetterYou+ is a publication of Ira Claris Media LLC, which is responsible for the information described here. You can reach us about anything on this page at [email protected] or through our contact form.
What you give us, because you chose to
The contact form
Our contact form asks for your name, your email address, a subject and a message. We use them to read what you sent and to reply. The form delivers your message as email to our reader mailbox, [email protected]; it is not stored in a database on this website, and it does not go to a third-party form service.
Please do not send confidential information, or health information about yourself or anyone else, through this form. It is ordinary email, and it is not a secure channel for anything sensitive.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, we ask only for your email address, and we use it only to send you the newsletter. Pressing “Send it to me” is how you ask for it: nothing is pre-ticked, and the words beside the button say what you are agreeing to. We use confirmed opt-in, so you will be asked to confirm by email before anything is sent; if you do not confirm, nothing is.
When you sign up we keep a record of your consent: the exact words shown beside the button you pressed, the date and time, the page and the part of the site you signed up from, the site language, and the IP address you used. It is kept with your subscription record, so that we can show you asked to be emailed.
The newsletter is sent from [email protected]. If you reply, your reply goes to [email protected], our reader mailbox. Every email names the publisher, Ira Claris Media LLC, and gives its postal address.
After you sign up we may suggest one article to read next. For each article we count how many times it was suggested this way and how many times the suggestion was opened — totals, nothing more. Those counts are never connected to your email address, and nothing about you is kept to make the choice.
Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately. If you unsubscribe we keep a minimal record that you did, so that we do not email you again by accident.
We do not track opens or clicks. Our newsletter software offers both and both are on by default. We have turned them off, because the FAQ tells you your address is used to send you the newsletter and nothing else, and we would rather change the software than narrow the sentence.
Subscriber records are held in the newsletter system on this website’s own hosting. They are not uploaded to a marketing platform.
Quick Question
Some pages ask one short question. If you answer, we record which question, which answer and the day — not the time. We do not ask for your name or email, and answers are never connected to our newsletter.
To stop one person answering the same question many times, we make a one-way code from your IP address and browser details, using a secret that is replaced every day and then destroyed. That code is kept apart from your answer, not beside it, and it is deleted within two days. Answers our checks reject as repeats or as automated are deleted after 90 days; totals are kept.
Your browser remembers which answer you chose, so we do not ask you the same question again. That stays on your device and is not sent to us or to anyone else.
We show answers only as percentages of the readers who chose to respond, never as a count and never as a scientific survey. We use the totals to understand our readers and improve what we cover, and we may publish or share totals — never individual answers. We will not try to identify anyone from them. Questions never ask about medical conditions, diagnoses, treatments or medications, and we do not use answers to infer anything about your health.
“Was this helpful?”
At the end of an article you can tell us whether it helped. We add your answer to a running total and a daily total for that article. To stop repeat answers we keep a short code made from your IP address for 24 hours, and your browser remembers that you answered.
What is collected automatically, because the web works that way
Server and security logs
Our web server records ordinary request information: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and browser and device type. This is standard hosting activity and we use it to keep the site running and to investigate faults and abuse.
We also run Wordfence, a security plugin, on this site. It records request information including IP addresses in order to identify and block attacks. This is on the same hosting as the site and is not shared for any other purpose.
Our content delivery and security network
Requests to betteryouplus.com pass through Cloudflare, which serves the site quickly and filters malicious traffic. Cloudflare necessarily processes your IP address and request details in order to do this, and may set strictly necessary cookies for security purposes. Cloudflare acts as our service provider and is bound by its own terms and privacy commitments.
Cloudflare also counts page views and measures how quickly pages load, for us (Cloudflare Web Analytics). It does this without cookies and without storing anything on your device, and we see totals, not individuals.
Caching
We cache pages so the site is fast. Caching does not identify you. A cookie is set only if you are signed in as an operator of the site, which readers are not.
Typefaces
Some of the lettering on this site uses Google Fonts. When your browser fetches those typefaces from Google’s servers, Google receives your IP address and browser details, as it would for any web request, under its own privacy policy. We send Google nothing else.
Analytics — what we are not doing, and why we are saying so
BetterYou+ runs no Google Analytics for readers. An analytics plugin is installed and connected to a Google Analytics account, but it is switched off for readers: no Google Analytics tag is served to your browser and no analytics cookie is set. The only counting is the cookieless page count and page-speed measurement Cloudflare provides, described above, and our own running total of visits to each article, which records no one.
This is a deliberate launch decision, not an oversight. A publication that writes about mental health, relationships and money should settle its privacy position before it starts measuring readers, not afterwards. Demographic and interest reporting are switched off, and IP anonymisation is switched on, so that if measurement is ever enabled it starts from the narrower setting rather than the default one.
If we do introduce analytics, we will update this page before we turn it on, say what is collected, and put any consent mechanism in place that is then required.
Advertising and affiliates
There is no advertising on BetterYou+, no advertising network, no advertising cookies and no ad-targeting of any kind. We have no affiliate relationships and take no payment from anyone mentioned in an article. Our Advertising & Affiliates page states this too, and it is the page that will change first if it ever stops being true.
The previous version of this policy claimed we worked with Google’s advertising products and listed advertising partners. That was template text and it was never true of this site. It has been removed.
Cookies and storage on your device
We use very few cookies, and none of them are for advertising or analytics:
- Strictly necessary. Security cookies set by Cloudflare, for example after your browser passes a security check, and a session cookie if you sign in as an operator.
A few things are remembered in your browser’s own storage instead. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes them. Only one of them is ever sent to us, and only as described below:
- Appearance. If you choose light or dark mode, that choice, so the site does not change under you on the next page.
- Did You Know. Which short facts you have already been shown, so you see a different one next time.
- Quick Question. The answer you chose, so we do not ask you the same question again.
- Article feedback. That you answered “Was this helpful?” on an article.
- Recently read. The numbers of the last twelve articles you opened here, or that we suggested to you, so that we do not suggest one you have just read. When we suggest an article after you sign up, your browser sends this list with the request so that we can skip them. We use it for that one choice and do not keep it.
Because we set no analytics or advertising cookies, there is no consent banner on this site. If that changes, the banner will arrive at the same time as the cookies, not later.
Who else sees your information
We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not trade it. There is no category of personal information we have sold or shared in the past twelve months.
The only parties that handle reader information are the ones needed to run the site: our hosting provider, which stores the site and delivers its email; Cloudflare, which sits in front of it and counts page views without cookies; and Google, which serves some of our typefaces. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site or someone’s safety.
Other software on this site — image optimisation, the photo-library browser, the editorial tools — is used by us while making articles and does not receive reader information.
Do Not Track, Global Privacy Control, and tracking across sites
We do not allow any third party to collect information about your activity across other websites through BetterYou+, and nothing we put on the page is designed to do that: there are no advertising or analytics cookies, and our page counting uses no cookies or identifiers. Because nothing here tracks you in that way, a browser’s Do Not Track signal does not change how the site behaves.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request not to sell or share your personal information — which we do not do for anyone.
How long we keep things
- Contact form messages: kept as email for as long as they are useful for the reason you wrote — typically a correction or a question — and then deleted.
- Newsletter subscriptions: kept until you unsubscribe, plus a minimal suppression record afterwards so we do not re-add you, together with the record of your consent.
- Quick Question answers: kept as part of the totals. The repeat-check code is kept apart from your answer and deleted within two days; answers rejected as repeats or as automated are deleted after 90 days.
- Article feedback: kept only as totals; the repeat-check code expires after 24 hours.
- Server and security logs: kept on a short rolling window for fault-finding and abuse handling, then rotated away.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, sits behind a security and filtering layer, and runs a firewall plugin. Access to the publishing system is limited to the people who run BetterYou+. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise; what we can say is that the amount of personal information here is deliberately small, which is itself the strongest protection available.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent you have given.
Because we hold so little, most requests are simple: for almost every reader the honest answer is that we hold nothing, and for a subscriber it is an email address, the record of your consent, and whether you confirmed it.
To make a request, email [email protected] or use the contact form. We will respond within one month. There is no charge for a first request. We may need to ask a question to be sure we are answering the right person, and we will not ask for more information than that requires.
If you are in the UK or the EU and you believe we have handled your information badly, you may complain to your national data protection authority. If you are in California, you may exercise the rights described above; we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing here to opt out of, and we will not discriminate against you for making a request.
Where your information is handled
Ira Claris Media LLC operates BetterYou+ from the United States and its hosting is in the United States. If you are reading from outside the United States, the information described here is handled there.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us their details, write to us and we will delete them.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes we will change the effective date below. If a change materially affects what we collect or who sees it, we will say what changed rather than quietly reposting the page — and where a change adds collection, this page will be updated before the collection begins.
Effective 12 September 2026. This version adds what the 4 September version did not describe: Cloudflare’s cookieless page counting, the typefaces served by Google, Quick Question and article-feedback answers and how they are kept, how newsletter sign-up works and the record we keep of it, which addresses send and receive newsletter email, the one article we may suggest after you sign up, what is remembered in your browser, and how we respond to Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. It also says plainly that the analytics plugin is connected but switched off for readers. The site was closed to the public while these were added, so no reader was affected by the gap.
The 4 September 2026 version This policy replaces the “Privacy Policy” published on 12 August 2022, which was generated from a template and described advertising, tracking and account features that this site has never had.
